Worst clashes have broken out between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh – a remnant of Soviet legacy. Armenia is a Christian Majority Country while Azerbaijan is primarily dominated by Turk Muslims. The main cause for this decades long conflict is Nagorno-Karabakh, a is internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan but has ethnic Armenian a majority. Global reactions have been pouring in and most of the Muslim majority country have supported Azerbaijan while few countries openly supported Armenia including Russia and rest are maintaining a safe distance.

As far as India is concerned, we have a good ties with both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is crucial for India’s connectivity from Mumbai to Chabahar to Moscow while Armenia is a arms exporter from India.

In 2018, the then Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had visited the fire temple in Baku. The temple was once used by Hindu and Zoroastrian communities, probably by visiting merchants from India as a place of worship.
